|Amy won the Martha Stewart Dreamers Into Doers Award. In the TV show segment, 11 finalists introduced themselves and shared their tips for turning dreams into reality. This was followed by Maya Angelou reading her poem, Phenomenal Woman. Amy was impressed by the other finalists and speechless when Martha announced that she was the grand prize winner. The Women On Their Way program presented Amy and her family with ‘Vacations for a Lifetime’ compliments of Wyndham Vacation Ownership (www.wyndhamworldwide.com). After observing an injustice and developing an innovative way to address it, she left corporate America and translated the concept into an award-winning national nonprofit. Thanks to Amy, Boundless Playgrounds Board, staff, donors, sponsors, advocates, and volunteers, and the many thousands of people Amy touched and inspired, over 135 inclusive playgrounds have been built in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Inclusive playgrounds where families and children of all abilities can play and learn together. Amy’s personal journey is chronicled in the book, Accidental Courage, Boundless Dreams. As an ambassador for this cause, Amy traveled throughout the country sharing her dreams for inclusive playgrounds with people and listening to theirs. She learned there was a tremendous opportunity to help people bring about – in their own way and for what matters to them – the kind of impact that was achieved with Boundless Playgrounds. In 2007, she encouraged Boundless Playgrounds’ Board to initiate a search for its first CEO. One year later she established Powerful Inspiration.
Amy’s achievements toward building a world where everyone matters and everyone can make a difference were recognized by Ashoka (www.ashoka.org), the global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs. She was elected a North American Fellow in 2002, in this international organization’s first cohort in the United States.
